Hot Finish by Erin McCarthy

Rated: R for some sexual content and language

Hot Finish is book number three in Erin McCarthy’s Fast Track Series. I was able to download this audiobook using the wonderful Overdrive app. This is the last book in this series that is available in audiobook right now, so the rest will be read using hard copies. I tell you that so you know it may take me a bit longer to post the reviews for the next few books.

I must say that earlier today, when the last words of Hot Finish were read to me by Emily Durante (the narrator for the audiobooks), I was quite sad. I thought the series was over. I joked with my boss saying I needed a personal day to mourn the loss of some of my favorite fictional characters. Obviously, I was so caught up in getting the next book and listening to it that I didn’t think to look on Erin McCarthy’s website to see if Hot Finish actually was the last book in the series. I only knew this was the last book available on Overdrive. When I thought to check her website I was elated to find that there are more books in the Fast Track series! Four more as of now with one left to reveal sometime in 2014! You can check out the “Books” page on our blog to find the list of books.

Anyways, on to the review!

There are two main characters in Hot Finish, Suzanne Jefferson and Ryder Jefferson, and two secondary characters, Nikki and Jonas.

Suzanne, 33 I believe, “ex-wife” to Ryder, no children, wedding planner

Ryder, about Suzanne’s age, “ex-husband” to Suzanne, no children, racecar driver

Nikki and Jonas are secondary main characters because Suzanne works closely with Nikki in this book, which in turn leads to Jonas being mentioned a lot.

Suzanne and Ryder were married, but their arguing got in the way and they weren’t able to work things out. They were able to keep a friendship after the divorce, which most couples can’t.

With the alimony running out, Suzanne decides to go back to doing what she used to do. Planning weddings. The wedding she is planning for Nikki is not an easy one. Nikki is kind of flighty and indecisive, going through quite a few wedding ideas before settling on one Suzanne thinks she can pull off.

Ryder is the best man in this quickly put together wedding. This makes it a bit uncomfortable for Suzanne, but she somewhat manages to stay sane. I’m not sure if Nikki or Ryder drove her more crazy.

From the previous two books, you know that there are some feelings left untold between Suzanne and Ryder. Those feelings are brought up when they find out they aren’t legally divorced yet.

In her writing, Erin McCarthy fills you with hope, love and longing to know more.

Staying in line with the first two books in the Fast Track series, Erin McCarthy delivers some steamy scenes and romance in Hot Finish.

I won’t tell you any more. If you want to know more you’ll have to read the book!

Happy reading!

Hard and Fast by Erin McCarthy

Rated: R for some sexual content and language

Hard and Fast is the second book in Erin McCarthy’s Fast Track Series.

I downloaded this audiobook from my local library using the Overdrive app.

Erin McCarthy has delivered another great, steamy romance.

The main characters in Hard and Fast are Imogen Wilson and Ty McCordle.

Imogen, 26 I believe, comes from Manhattan, NY to Charlotte, NC to persue her Master’s in Sociology. She is also Tamara’s assistant. She has a tendency to overthink and overanalyze things.

Ty, can’t remember his age (30ish?), racecar driver, outdoors lover, high school dropout, dislexic, a ladies man

Continuing with the racing theme, Erin McCarthy tells another beautiful story of love and passion.

Imogen and Ty meet for the first time at Tamara’s house in Flat-Out Sexy.  When Hard and Fast begins, Ty is with Nikki, who just wants to be with him because of his fame. After talking to Imogen and Nikki showing her true colors, Ty finds himself in love for the first time.

Imogene works on her thesis and Ty doesn’t like her topic. When Imogen tries to help Ty with his “secret” things don’t go well.

Imogen and Ty introduce each other to new things such as camping, fishing and Shakespeare.

I can’t say too much about the book, because if I do I’ll ruin it for the reader. Just know it’s steamy, well written and you won’t want to put it down.

Just like with Flat-Out Sexy, pay attention to the characters because they play a role in each other’s lives and they are carried on to the next book (Hot Finish), which I will review when I’m done listening to it.

I hope you enjoy these books as much as I did!

Happy reading!

Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy (Fast Track Series)

Rating: R (using the movie rating guide) – sexual content and some language

Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy was a great read. Or should I say listen since I downloaded the audiobook?

If you like steamy loves stories, and I do mean steamy, this book is for you!

The story takes place mostly in Charlotte, NC. I’m guessing the race track mentioned  is Charlotte Motor Speedway since the lifestyles are that of racecar drivers. Erin McCarthy doesn’t really go into a lot of details about the racing, but she tells you enough to understand the characters and she writes about the few races the characters attend. Just enough information and race action to keep you interested, but not so extensive that it bores the non-race fan to death. I’m not a huge racing fan, so the information given didn’t bore me. Instead the information given kind of left me wanting to know a little more about the sport.

There are two main characters in Flat-Out Sexy, Tamara Briggs and Elec Monroe.

Tamara Briggs, 32, is the widow of Pete Briggs, a racecar driver, a college professor, with two children. Tamara’s daughter is Hunter and her son is Pete (or Petey as she calls him).

Elec Monroe, 25, comes from a racing family. His father used to race and his brother races along side him. Not much else is told about Elec’s life if I remember correctly.

Tamara is still close with her inlaws and she and her children visit/talk to them frequently. For some reason, which is vaguely told, the Briggs and the Monroes don’t like each other, but as fate has it Tamara and Elec meet and fall in love. Kind of a Romeo and Juliet love without the death.

I don’t want to say much else because I don’t want to ruin the book for you! Like I said, if you like to curl up with a steamy romance, I highly recommend Flat-Out Sexy. Pay attention to all the characters mentioned because they all play a roll in each other’s lives and those characters flow through to the next book in the Fast Track series.

Carnival of Madness Tour

I had the opportunity to go to the Carnival of Madness Tour the other day. It was amazing despite the fact it rained for most of the show. By rained I mean poured and lightening lit up the sky.

The bands performing were WeAsHuman, In This Moment, Papa Roach, Skillet and Shinedown. Despite the rain and lightening, the bands performed to their max! That is until the venue evacuated for a short period of time because worse weather was moving in, but they resumed full force once everyone was let back in. Unfortunately I missed WeAsHuman and In This Moment. I was told all the bands played, but I don’t remember seeing Skillet (I was 100% sober). Anyway, I did see Papa Roach’s set and Shinedown’s set. Both bands were absolutely amazing! Their sound on stage is just as good, if not better than their album sound.

The whole show was awesome, but there is one song that sticks out to me, the last song of Shinedown’s set, Bully. If you’ve never heard this song I suggest you check it out. The band started into the song and it sounded great. Then the screen behind them lit up and I almost cried. I’m pretty sure a lot of you have heard the story of Amanda Todd? The teenage girl who was bullied to the point she took her own life? Yes, Shinedown played her YouTube video on the screen while performing Bully. I know Amanda Todd is not the only person who has taken her life, but it’s not so much about her as an individual, it’s about all the people who have or have thought about leaving the world. I think it was very nice and amazing that Shinedown thought to put this video with this song. Just in case you’re thinking it, no, I do not think Shinedown used that video for publicity. I think they genuinely care about people, their fans, their haters and the people that have no idea who they are.

If the Carnival of Madness Tour comes to your town you should go! You won’t be disappointed!

My Opinion on Kellin Quinn

So lately there has been a lot of drama surrounding Kellin Quinn of Sleeping with Sirens. A lot of it had to do with charging $80 for a meet and greet. Here are my opinions.

$80 is really nothing. I have paid a lot more for Meet and Greets. I actually paid $150 for a Meet and Greet with Marianas Trench (A more less known band in the US). My Issue with the Money is for the “photo with the band” you’re not really getting a photo with the band. You’re getting a photo with Kellin Quinn. What about my photo with Justin Hills, Gabe Barham, Jesse Lawson, and/or Jack Fowler. They won’t exist unless you hang out after the show to try and get photos with them.
My second Issue how Kellin justified the $80, saying that Polorid film is super expensive and that he has a family now and that’s why the Meet and Greet is so expensive. I did the research, Polorid film is $11 for 300 photos. That would make each photo $0.04. Also if there is 50 people per Meet and greet, that would cover 6 shows. They would have to buy 5 film strips. Which would be a grand total of $55. When you factor in all the other elements of the Package (Double Sided Poster and GA Ticket) It would actually run about $50. ($20-$30 for Ticket, $10 for Poster, $10 for Picture with Band).
For My Meet and Greet with Marianas Trench it had a lot more elements and I do believe it was reasonably priced. I also have a Meet and Greet with Ghost Town coming up and that was definitely reasonable. It included everything SWS included in their meet and greet (but the photo is actually with the band) and it was only $30.
My Last issue is I decided to look at their new merch store and noticed you are limited to only certain sizes (small-large). Not everybody fits into those sizes and if its a certain company with smaller sizes than they def. will not fit. I also noticed on a few shirts where there is photo, its only a photo of Kellin. Not the rest of the band. Sleeping with Sirens is a band. Not just Kellin Quinn.
On the plus side, I am glad he did donate most of the funds from the meet and greets to a girl who has cancer.
